Depth, Flavor & Char in Downtown

TL;DR —

This post is WAY overdue because we’ve been going here for years and it’s probably one of our favorite spots in all of downtown. Don’t come here expecting a conventional street taco that you’d get at a taco truck, because that’s not what Sonoratown is about. They serve a unique Sonoran style taco that is packed with a crazy amount of flavor from their mesquite wood fire cooked meat, delicious salsas, and crispy cabbage all layered in a delicious handmade flour tortilla.

Costilla and Tripa Tacos

These are the two meats we always get at Sonoratown. Their costilla, similar to asada, is packed with so much smokey flavor from the mesquite wood it’s cooked over. It’s got the perfect amount of charred bits that add a nice crunchy texture. Their tripa is to die for here. Personally, we’re not a fan of soft tripa, but Sonoratown does a crispy tripa that is out of this world. So crispy and oh so flavorful. Both of these meats are complemented so well by shredded cabbage and their avocado and red salsas. A bite of one of these tacos followed by a bite of green onion and a crispy radish is actually heaven on earth.

Beef Chivichanga

The beef chivi is also a must-have at Sonoratown. It completes an order of tacos perfectly. The shredded beef is slow cooked to perfection and has so much flavor packed into the meat and sauce. It’s perfectly salty and tangy and is complemented perfectly by 2 types of cheese and stewed tomatoes and Anaheim chile. All wrapped up in a flour tortilla and grilled, it really is the perfect little snack or meal if you order it along with some tacos.
