Chicken Rice and Everything Nice

TL;DR —

Easily entered the rotation of restaurants we will frequent on a semi-monthly basis in the SGV. It took us forever to finally eat here and we really regret waiting so long because everything we’ve tried from them so far, from their specials to more off-kilter menu items have absolutely slapped.

Vietnamese Style Crab Paste Noodle

We happened to go to Savoy Kitchen on a Wednesday and though we initially were both planning on getting our own Hainan chicken, we saw that they had bún riêu as a special that they only serve on Wednesday. Bún riêu is one of my favorite Viet noodle soups, so we had to order it even though Savoy isn’t necessarily known for that (or at least not that I’m aware of). We’re SO glad we decided to give it a try because it was honestly some of the best we’ve ever had at a restaurant. The broth was extremely deep in flavor and had all the funk you want in a bowl. Noodles were cooked to a perfect al dente and all the flavors came together splendidly. They didn’t serve any fresh herbs which is traditionally what you enjoy a bowl of bún riêu with; however, we honestly weren’t even mad because the noodle soup alone was that good.

Hainan Kitchen

The Hainan chicken was obviously going to be one of the dishes we ordered for our first time to Savoy and we obviously weren’t going to be disappointed. Theirs was everything you could possibly want on a plate: perfectly cooked and tender chicken, flavorful chicken rice, and three smackin’ sauces. The sauce on the left was a more traditional soy-based sauce, the middle was a traditional ginger in oil mixture, and the third sauce on the right was a creamy lime-based sauce. We got our chicken with just rice; however, they have a variety of combinations you can do including half rice and half salad. All three sauces were so good and servers will frequently swing by your table with a mother bin of sauces to come refill your sauce dish so you’re never running low. Their Hainan chicken is so comforting, simple and super affordable.
