This is the Wei

TL;DR —

Everything about Wei’s Scallion Pancake Hut is perfection. From her beef noodle soup to the setting you get to enjoy it in the company you get to enjoy it with, it’s a whole experience that’ll bring you as close to street food in Asia as possible without having to step foot outside of the SGV. And you get to do your weekly grocery shopping at the Alhambra Farmer’s market after your meal. It’s truly the best.

Beef Noodle Soup

We’re always excited to try new beef noodle soup in the SGV. There are a million and one restaurants that serve it on their menu, so there are so many new places to try. We go to the Alhambra Farmer’s market and pass by the Wei’s Scallion Pancake Hut tent all the time and we decided to finally try it since the line wasn’t too long, and it was such a memorable experience. The bowl of beef noodle soup was really delicious. The beef was tender, the broth was flavorful, and the noodles were different than what you typically get, in a good way. The texture was similar to the type of noodles you get in bun bo hue; a chewier rice-like noodle. The main lady (I’m not sure if this is Wei or not, I’ll have to ask next time) was SO welcoming and nice. The level of warmth and hospitality was like stepping into her home except you’re in a tent on the sidewalk sitting on some plastic stools. She showed us how to eat her homemade chili sauce which we bought a jar of after. It was super spicy but delicious. The communal tables were great as we got to chat with our table mates over our meal and discuss how excited we were to have a stall like this to eat at that is so reminiscent of eating in Asia.
