Brings Us Joy
TL;DR —
Even though we live in the SGV where Taiwanese food is plentiful, we still find ourselves driving out to Highland Park to eat at Joy because of how tasty their dishes & drinks are.
Passion Fruit Black Tea
The passion fruit black tea was SO good on a hot LA day. The tea itself is definitely above average quality and it has fresh fruit muddled at the bottom. Super refreshing and tasty, especially if you’re a fan of passion fruit!
Sesame Scallion Bread
We were intrigued by the sesame scallion bread because we had never had it before and wanted to try something new. We ordered a slice of it and tbh, it was super bland. It definitely seems like something that should be bought as a loaf and then used as sandwich bread or something. Not great on its own but definitely got some interesting sandwich ideas!
Seaweed Salad
The seaweed salad at Joy is a must. It’s tossed in a super flavorful & balanced soy/vinegar/chili vinaigrette and has great texture.
Dan Dan Noodles
Normally we’re not a fan of super peanut-y/sesame-y Dan Dan noodles, but the Dan Dan noodles at Joy are literally the only exception. The flavor in the sauce they use is sooo good & coats the noodles so nicely. The richness of the sauce pairs super nicely with the freshly sliced cucumbers.
Vegetarian Mapo Tofu
This was our first time ordering the mapo tofu and we were really impressed. It’s got great flavor and is packed with a lot of tofu and mushrooms. Don’t expect any mala spice from Joy’s version of mapo tofu because they don’t add any Sichuan peppercorns to theirs. Still really good though!
